OTTAWA-Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will be in Toronto on April 28, 2007, to attend the Harry Jerome Awards and to participate in a discussion hosted by ArtReach Toronto.

Saturday, April 28, 1:00 p.m.ArtReach Toronto (Whippersnapper Gallery, 587A College Street)The Governor General will visit the Whippersnapper Gallery and will participate in a discussion with young urban artists on the ways in which art can be used to improve life in their neighbourhoods. The tour of the gallery, the Governor General's brief remarks, and a short documentary by Schools Without Borders on the way young people from socially excluded communities are getting involved with the arts will be open to the media. ArtReach Toronto is a program designed to support arts initiatives that engage Toronto youth who have experienced exclusion.
Saturday, April 28, 5:30 p.m. 25th Annual Harry Jerome Awards (Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road)The Governor General will attend the 25th Harry Jerome Awards and will be the keynote speaker of the evening. The Harry Jerome Awards celebrate excellence in Canada's Black community. Hosted by Canada AM's Marci Ien, the events will feature performances by Jacksoul, Rahiem Hurlock and comedian Jay Martin. Award recipients will include gymnast Britnee Habbib, urban music industry pioneer Farley Flex, and The Honourable Jean Augustine.
