For immediate release
Vancouver, April 27, 2007 — Following his decision to rename the Government of Canada Building at 401 Burrard Street in Vancouver, the Honourable Michael M Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, today officially invites the public to suggest new names.
“I invite members of the public to propose a name for this building that is inspired by a person, place or event of historical significance to the province of British Columbia and Canada,” said Minister Fortier.
Public Works and Government Services Canada will accept name suggestions starting today (April 27) until May 18, 2007.
A volunteer committee comprised of local community representatives has been formed to consider all name suggestions. This committee will create a shortlist of the suggested names, and then make a recommendation to the Minister for his consideration.
“Public involvement in this renaming process is crucial,” said Minister Fortier. “This is a special building in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Its name should reflect its importance to the community.”
The public can suggest names through E-mail, fax or mail, or on-line at the following website http://www.pwgsc.gc.ca/text/generic/articles/2007/2007-04-27-00-401b-e.html
