OTTAWA, May 8, 2007 - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Dr. Dana W. Hanson, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, as Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature.
"Dr. Hanson's leadership skills, commitment to the arts and experience with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery will bring invaluable expertise to the Museum," said Minister Oda.
Prior to establishing his dermatology practice in Fredericton in 1980, Dr. Hanson was a general practitioner in Medicine Hat, Alberta, as well as in Saint John, New Brunswick.
An active member of the medical community, both at the provincial and national level, he was chair of the board of directors of the New Brunswick Medical Society for four years, serving as its president from 1992 to 1993. In 1999, he was awarded the Distinguished Career Award from his local medical society. He has been a member of the Canadian Medical Association since 1974 and has served in many leadership roles over the years. Dr. Hanson has served as secretary-treasurer of the Canadian Dermatology Association and has been awarded the President's Cup from the association for his outstanding contributions.
He is currently serving as the Canadian Medical Association representative on the World Medical Association and chairs the Canadian Medical Forum: a group of nine medical associations representing educators, regulators and advocates. He is also very active in the community in charity fundraising and is a supporter of the arts. He has served on a number of boards and was chair of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton.
