Appointment to the Canada Industrial Relations Board

OTTAWA, ONTARIO May 4, 2007 — The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the full-time appointment of Mr. Herman Champagne to the Canada Industrial Relations Board as an employer member.
"Mr. Champagne has held progressively senior positions in different industries with national or international companies," said Minister Blackburn. "The Canada Industrial Relations Board will value his knowledge and expertise."
Mr. Champagne's recent professional experience includes three years as Director of Human Resources at Technicolor, which specializes in film, television and commercial post-production. Prior to that, he was responsible for human resources and labour relations activities at Collins & Aikman, an American company that manufactures automobile carpets and plastic components for the automotive industry. Mr. Champagne also served as Senior Advisor of Human Resources at Petro-Canada for six years.
Mr. Champagne holds a bachelor's degree in industrial relations from Université Laval and a general law certificate from the Université de Montréal. He is a member of the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés du Québec.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board was established on January 1, 1999, as an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal. Its mandate is to interpret and apply the provisions of Part I of the Canada Labour Code dealing with bargaining rights and unfair labour practices.
