Appointment to the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, ONTARIO-The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the appointment of Ms. Elaine Mary Kierans as part-time Vice-Chairperson of the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal (CAPPRT).
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Kierans," said Minister Blackburn. "She brings a great combination of people skills, education and more than 20 years of work experience."
Ms. Kierans is currently a Director of Brighter Minds Media Inc., a leading provider of children's educational and entertainment multimedia products. For the past nine years, she has held the position of Director of the Toronto French School where she is Chair of the Human Resources Committee and a member of the Executive Committee and Nominating and Governance Committee.
Ms. Kierans worked as a lawyer for more than half a decade after graduating from McGill University in 1983. She remains an active member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. She has also held numerous positions throughout her career including Vice-Chair and Director of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and Captain of the Granite Golf Club.
The CAPPRT is an independent quasi-judicial tribunal created in 1995 under the Status of the Artist Act. The mandate of the tribunal is to contribute to Canada's cultural community by encouraging constructive professional relations between artists, as independent entrepreneurs, and producers in the federal jurisdiction.
