OTTAWA - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Jeffrey R. Clarke to the board of directors of VIA Rail Canada Inc.
"I am pleased that Mr. Clarke has agreed to serve on the board," said Minister Cannon.
"VIA Rail provides a vital service to link our communities and I am
confident that his experience in business and project management will be great
assets to the board."
Mr. Clarke began his career in the real estate industry after attending St. Mary's University. This led him to the position of executive vice president
charged with real estate syndication for Centennial Hotels in Atlantic Canada.
He is currently president and chief executive officer of Ottawa's Inflector
Environmental Services. Through his company, Mr. Clarke has managed projects in
over fifteen countries, addressing environmental issues such as mould /
bacterial contamination, indoor air quality problems and asbestos abatement in
institutional and commercial properties.
Over the years, Mr. Clarke has served on the Finance and Expansion Committee of
Mount St. Vincent University and was a co-founder of Citizens for Free Trade in
Atlantic Canada. He has also served as co-chair of the annual dinner for WaterCan, a Canadian non-governmental organization that is dedicated to
providing clean water, basic sanitation and education on hygiene to the world's
poorest people. Closer to home, Mr. Clarke is a supporter of the United Way and
an active member of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA). Under his
leadership, Inflector Environmental Services is the primary sponsor of the Ski
For Children Race in support of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
Mr. Clarke has been appointed member of the board of directors of VIA Rail
Canada Inc. for a period of four years.
VIA Rail Canada Inc., a Crown corporation created in 1977, operates Canada's
national passenger rail service. The board of directors is responsible for
overseeing the business activities and other affairs of the corporation.
