OTTAWA - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure
and Communities, today announced the appointments of Mr. Michael D. Campbell and
Mr. Donald K. Robinson, Q.C, to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA)
board of directors.
"I am pleased that Mr. Campbell and Mr. Robinson have accepted to contribute
their talents to CATSA," said Minister Cannon. "Mr. Campbell's extensive
experience in airport management, along with
Mr. Robinson's expertise in law, will be great assets to the Authority."
Mr. Michael D. Campbell holds a bachelor of science from St. Dunstan's
University, and is an Accredited Airport Executive and graduate of Transport
Canada's Transportation Management course. He currently is chief executive
officer of the Charlottetown Airport Authority, a position he has held since
1999. From 1982 until 1999, he served as airport manager of the same facility.
Mr. Campbell was airport manager of Saint John Airport in New Brunswick from
1978 until 1982. He also spent seven years, between 1971 and 1978, performing
various management duties for Transport Canada regional offices in Moncton, New
Brunswick, and Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. He has been appointed to
the board for four years.
Mr. Donald K. Robinson, Q.C., is a retired lawyer who was called to the Bar in
New Brunswick in 1964, and in Ontario in 1966. He was appointed Queen's Counsel
in 1979. In addition to being a partner in his law firm, he has held corporate
positions as vice-president, secretary and general counsel with several
international corporations. He has also served as chair and president of the
executive committees of numerous organizations including the Canadian
Association of Police Boards, the Ontario Association of Police Boards, and the
Halton Regional Police Services Board. Mr. Robinson has been a member of the Law
Society of New Brunswick, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the York County Law
Association, the Canadian Council on International Law and the Canadian Bar
Association. He has been appointed to the board for two years.
CATSA, established on April 1, 2002, is a federal Crown corporation that
operates on a not-for-profit basis. It is responsible for the provision of key
air security services such as: pre-board screening of passengers and their
belongings; random screening of non-passengers; acquisition, deployment and
maintenance of explosives detection equipment at airports; management of federal
contributions for airport policing related to civil aviation security
initiatives; and contracting of police on board aircraft. CATSA is also
responsible for the development and implementation of a restricted area identity
card incorporating biometric features.
