RED ROCK, Ontario, May 4, 2007 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, today announced funding of $26,500 for the Live from the Rock Blues & Folk Society.
"Canada's New Government is proud to support the fifth annual Live from the Rock Folk Festival," said Minister Oda. "This festival provides the community on the northern shore of Lake Superior with access to national and international musicians in the folk and world music genres, and resourceful workshops for audiences of all ages."
"The festival is a major cultural activity and a source of pride for the region," said Minister Clement. "I congratulate the Live from the Rock Blues & Folk Society for their efforts to bring arts and culture to their community and to provide performance opportunities for emerging artists."
"We are truly grateful for this financial assistance enabling our festival to succeed," said Denise Krawczuk, President of the Live from the Rock Blues & Folk Society. "During the hard times that the community of Red Rock had to face this year, this definitely will be a positive step in ensuring the viability of our festival as well as our community."
The Live from the Rock Blues & Folk Society is a non-profit organization that promotes and supports folk arts, music and theatre. The fifth annual Live from the Rock Festival will take place in the community of Red Rock's Marina Park from August 9 to 12, 2007. The festival will showcase local and emerging artists alongside established national and international musicians in the folk and world music genres, in a celebration of music and the arts. Programming will include a variety of concerts, interactive workshops and musical jams for adults, young adults, and family audiences.
Canada's New Government has provided funding under the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances and other arts experiences.
