PLACENTIA, NL Jerome Kerrivan of Placentia was convicted in Placentia Provincial
Court on January 3, 2007 of violating conditions of his snow crab licence.
Mr. Kerrivan was fined $4,500, for fishing snow crab in an area he was not licenced
to fish and $500 for fishing from a vessel not identified on his licence.
Pius Mulrooney of Placentia, who was fishing with Mr. Kerrivan at the time of
the offence, was fined $750 for making a false statement during the investigation.
On April 29, 2006, fishery officers from the Placentia Detachment using land-based
patrol vehicles, a patrol vessel and a surveillance plane, conducted a stakeout
operation in the Placentia Bay area in response to information of illegal crab fishing
activity.
On May 1, 2006, the two men were observed hauling crab pots and were apprehended
by fishery officers.
Fined for fishing from an unregistered vessel
In Placentia Provincial Court on March 2, 2007, Richard Nash of Branch was fined
$500 for fishing from an unregistered vessel.
Fishery officers from the Placentia Detachment conducted an investigation of
Mr. Nash and found that during the 2006 snow crab fishery he used a vessel not authorized
on his 2006 snow crab licence.
Exceeding cod quota
In St. John’s Provincial Court on February 16, 2007, Keith Boland of St. John’s
was fined $500 for exceeding his 2005 individual quota for Atlantic cod by 1,049
lbs.
Charges were laid by fishery officers of the Bay Roberts Detachment following
a review of Mr. Boland’s 2005 cod landings.
