Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada Opens Important Symposium on Psychological Trauma

Montréal - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, officially opened the 2nd National Symposium on Operational Stress Injuries. This major symposium, taking place between May 7 to 9, supports Veterans Affairs Canada's firm commitment to mental health.
"Canada's New Government is steadfast in its commitment to assist Veterans and Canadian Forces members who suffer from psychological injuries," stated Minister Thompson. "This symposium, as with the Veterans Bill of Rights and the establishment of an Ombudsman, is an excellent example of our ongoing effort to improve the quality of life for those who have served and for those proudly serving our country today."
The theme for this symposium, which is an initiative of Ste. Anne's Hospital National Centre for Operational Stress Injuries is: The Complexities in treating psychological trauma: Together we can make a difference. This event is part of the far-reaching Mental Health Strategy implemented by Veterans Affairs Canada in collaboration with the Department of National Defence and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The symposium will gather field experts, researchers, clinicians, policy-makers and program managers to discuss cutting-edge approaches in assessing and treating individuals suffering from operational stress injuries. It will contribute to the advancement and transfer of knowledge and practices particularly in areas such as post-traumatic stress disorder.
