OTTAWA , May 11, 2007 -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Gary W. Tranmer , a partner with Nelson Tranmer LLP in Kingston, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario. He replaces
Mr. Justice Frank R. Caputo (Sault Ste. Marie) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Gary Tranmer received a Bachelor of Laws in 1977 and a Bachelor of Science (Engineering, Honours) in 1974, both from Queen’s University and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1979. He practised with Cunningham, Swan, Carty, Little & Bonham (1979-2000) and then co-founded his own firm of Nelson Tranmer LLP (2001-2007). Mr. Justice Tranmer's practice expertise includes civil litigation, personal injury law, insurance law and sports law. In 1994, he was certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. He has acted as Director of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and has been a frequent instructor of the Civil Litigation course at the Law Society of Upper Canada's Bar Admission Programme. Mr. Justice Tranmer is a Founding Member and Race Director of the Kingston Kids Triathlon and has been a member of the Canadian National Triathlon Team four times.
This appointment is effective immediately.
