FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VANCOUVER, British Columbia— The Honourable David Emerson, Member of Parliament for Vancouver – Kingsway, Minister of International Trade, and Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver – Whistler Olympics, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced the opening of the Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) – Vancouver. The office is ready to assist young workers and businesses with their summer employment needs.
“On behalf of Canada’s New Government, I am proud to announce the opening of a Service Canada Centre for Youth in Vancouver, where young people can now find information and resources to help them get work experience,” said Minister Emerson. “There is a reason Service Canada’s slogan is People Serving People – our Government wants to ensure Canadians can access reliable, useful assistance in person and closer to home.”
Service Canada Centres for Youth assist young people with resumés, cover letters and interview skills, as well as provide information on Government of Canada programs and services, wage rates, workplace health and safety and employment standards. In addition, SCCYs offer employers job posting services on the Internet and in the office, giving them access to hundreds of enthusiastic students.
“Whatever the job – big or small, short- or long-term – we can help you fill it,” said
Nicole Caulfield, supervisor of the SCCY. “In the coming weeks, youth services officers will be contacting local employers to make them aware that our SCCY is now open and ready to assist them in any way possible.”
This year, the SCCY will be located at 204-1668 West Broadway. Its hours of operation are Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Employers interested in using SCCY services and students looking for summer jobs can contact the SCCY – Vancouver at 604-666-4473.
