Ottawa, May 25, 2007
On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Pierre DesRoches, a Canadian film and television pioneer.
Following a distinguished career with Radio-Canada, where he served in a number of capacities including Vice President of French Broadcasting in 1985, Mr. DesRoches was
appointed Executive Director of Telefilm Canada in 1988.
He led Telefilm during a very productive period, from 1988 to 1994. It was during that time that Telefilm helped fund such well-known television programs as Road
to Avonlea, North of 60 and E.N.G. for English-language television, and Scoop, Blanche, Chambres en ville, and La
Petite Vie, among others, in French. Mr. DesRoches was also at the helm during the production of such important Canadian films as Un zoo la nuit, Jésus
de Montréal, I've Heard the Mermaids Singing, Highway 61, and many others.
The commitment of Pierre DesRoches to Canadian film and television has touched the lives of so many, and opened the door to a new generation of directors, actors and
other artists. His contribution has made our country stronger and richer, and we deeply appreciate his services.
