Suspicious Package at Prime Minister's Residence

News Release

OTTAWA — May 13, 2007— Shortly after 5 p.m. this afternoon, a male individual was observed on the sidewalk throwing a suspicious package onto the Prime Minister’s property located at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa. The package was examined by the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) and found to contain no explosives or anything that would pose a threat to health. The individual has not been located.
Sussex Drive was closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic between Princess Avenue and the entrance to the MacDonald Cartier bridge during the investigation. It was re-opened at 7:25 p.m.
The matter remains under investigation, as a result no further information may be provided at this time.
