OTTAWA - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr.
Julius Spivack as member and vice-chair of the board of directors of the
Laurentian Pilotage Authority, effective June 30, 2007.
"I am pleased that Mr. Spivack has agreed to serve on the board of
directors of the Laurentian Pilotage Authority," said Minister Cannon. "His
business experience in the industry will be an asset to the board."
Mr. Spivack graduated with a bachelor of commerce from Sir George Williams
University (now Concordia) in 1971 and is a chartered accountant,
specializing in management information systems, human resources and labour
negotiations and financial and project management. He is a member of the
Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Quebec Association of
Chartered Accountants. Since 1986, Mr. Spivack has been vice-president of
the General Woods and Veneers International Consulting Group, responsible
for corporate management, business development, and international relations.
From 1980 until 1984, Mr. Spivack served as the financial director of
General Woods and Veneers Ltd., and was based in Zaire. For three years,
beginning in 1977, he was controller and assistant to the president of
Interline Furniture Ltd., a subsidiary of a German company. Mr. Spivack has
been appointed to the board for four years.
The Laurentian Pilotage Authority is a Crown corporation created in 1972
under the Pilotage Act. It is responsible for operating and
maintaining a safe, efficient and economical pilotage service on the
St. Lawrence River between Les Escoumins and the St. Lambert Lock, on the
Saguenay River, and in Chaleur Bay.
