No. H 108/07
For release June 5, 2007
OTTAWA - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities,
today announced the appointment of Mr. Bruce Wright to the Oshawa Harbour Commission, for a term
of three years.
"Mr. Wright's extensive experience in business and management, as well as his knowledge of the
transportation sector, will serve him well as he takes on his duties at the Oshawa Harbour
Commission," said Minister Cannon. "I am pleased that he has agreed to take on this responsibility."
Mr. Wright is the owner of B & G Truck and Trailer Repairs, a heavy truck and bus repair business
in the Oshawa area. He is also a member of the Oshawa Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Wright acquired a
private pilot's licence in 1960, when he was president of Oshawa's Lions Club. After completing his
apprenticeship for a mechanic's licence for both trucks and autos, he managed a successful auto repair
business for over 10 years. Mr. Wright then moved on to work for Ontario Hydro in the fleet maintenance
sector for another 10 years, and later operated a transport company specializing in boat and marine haulage.
Throughout his career, he has also served on the boards of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Licence
Appeals Tribunal.
The Port of Oshawa, located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, has a long history of commercial shipping
and trading. It is capable of accommodating any size or type of vessel entering the
St. Lawrence Seaway System, and providing shippers with a wide range of cargo handling equipment
and a labour force experienced in handling all types of cargo. The Port of Oshawa plays a major role
in the economic development of the region by providing cost effective access to the highly
industrialized centres of south-central Ontario, the north-eastern United States and overseas.
