OTTAWA Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, is inviting residents and visitors to Rideau Hall on Sunday, July 1, 2007.. Rideau Hall is proud to be added as a new official site, as part of the Canada Day celebrations in the Capital Region organized by the National Capital Commission (NCC).
9 a.m.Becoming Canadian at Rideau Hall/Canadian Citizenship Ceremony
The Governor General will celebrate Canadian citizenship when she swears in 48 new citizens from across Canada31 adults and 17 childrenduring a special public ceremony being held at Rideau Hall to mark the 60th anniversary of Canadian citizenship.Presented by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
Note: Media representatives wishing to attend should arrive no later than 8:30 a.m.
12 noonCanada Day Noon Show, Parliament Hill
The Governor General will join Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Bev Oda, and thousands of Canadians on Parliament Hill for the Noon Show. The Noon Show will be broadcast live across the country on CBC and Radio-Canada, beginning at 12 noon (EST).
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.Rideau Hall open for guided tours
Walk through Canada's history at Rideau Hall, the historic residence and workplace of the governor general. Visit the ceremonial rooms where Canadians are honoured and dignitaries welcomed. Guided tours are free and last 45 minutes.
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Symphony of Cultures at the 4th Annual Canada Day CHIN Picnic, Rideau Hall
CHIN Radio will be holding its annual Canada Day picnic at Rideau Hall. Bring a lunch, chairs or blankets and enjoy a free, all-day multicultural show:
11 a.m. - Mackendy and Kale Band An artistic adventure in Kompa music. A unique mix of Canadian culture and energetic Caribbean rhythms.
12:30 p.m. - Christine Attallah Enjoy catchy pop choruses and memorable melodies with this Lebanese singer-songwriter from Montreal.
1:45 p.m. - Andre Ibrahim and the Stars of Lebanon BandA mix of popular sounds flavoured with Lebanese heritage and traditions.
3 p.m. - Paul London This Italian duo from Toronto, comprised of Paul and his brother Sam, will perform pop music and Italian favourites.
A Canada Day shuttle provided by Via Rail Canada will be operating from10 a.m. to 6 p.m., between Jacques-Cartier Park, Major's Hill Park and Rideau Hall. Free parking is also available at the National Research Council Canada, 100 Sussex Drive, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
