Canada's New Government Announces Funding for Commemorative Events in Napanee

Ottawa - Mr. Scott Reid, Member of Parliament for Lanark - Frontenac - Lennox and Addington, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today a contribution of up to $1,500 to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137 (Napanee). The funds, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund, will support commemorative events held in Napanee.
"These commemorative events will give the community an opportunity to gather and honour our Veterans who have served our country with great courage and bravery," said Minister Thompson. "I am delighted that many local youth and air cadets will be participating. I am sure that they will proudly carry the torch of remembrance into the future."
The commemorative events, to be held on September 16, will include a parade entitled the "British Commonwealth Air Force Parade" followed by a ceremony and reception. Organizers are anticipating that some 100 Veterans and more than 350 youth plan to participate in the commemoration.
"I would like to express profound appreciation to all the brave men and women who willingly risked their lives to protect our values and way of life," said Mr. Reid. "We remember with eternal gratitude those who made the ultimate sacrifice."

The Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based projects.
