OTTAWA - June 18, 2007 - The Honourable John Baird, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency), today announced the coming into force of the Exclusion List Regulations, 2007.
The updated regulations, entitled the Exclusion List Regulations, 2007, repeal and replace the previous Regulations. They specify projects that are exempt, due to their limited effects on the environment, from the federal environmental assessment process under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. Examples of such projects may include certain types of works related to buildings, fences, road widening projects and railway crossings.
The new regulations contain 21 additions and 36 modifications to the previous regulations. These were determined following extensive consultations with federal departments, agencies and other bodies as well as with the Minister’s multi-stakeholder Regulatory Advisory Committee. The Agency also sought public comments by publishing a draft of the proposed new regulations in the Canada Gazette, Part I, in 2005.
The new regulations were published in Canada Gazette, Part II, and can be accessed on the Web site of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
