KAMLOOPS, British Columbia— Ms. Betty Hinton, Member of Parliament for Kamloops–Thompson–Cariboo, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced over $6 million in funding to the Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) of Thompson Country to help individuals in Kamloops return to work or become self-employed.
“Canada’s New Government is committed to creating the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world,” said Ms. Hinton. “We are proud to support community organizations that help Canadians who are not currently employed find work.”
The Community Futures Development Corporation of Thompson Country will receive $3,419,501 for the Self-Employment Assistance program, a project that will help more than 275 participants in the Kamloops area become self-employed by providing them with business counselling and income support. The CFDC will also receive $3,095,071 for the Skills Development Program, aimed at providing 352 unemployed participants with the financial assistance needed to access training and obtain the skills necessary to return to work.
The Community Futures Development Corporation of Thompson Country is a federally funded not-for-profit organization offering a wide range of services including the Self-Employment Benefits Program, the Skills Development Employment Benefits Program, the Abilities to Business Program, and business loans for start-up or expansion.
