Industry Minister Bernier Leads Team Canada Mission at Year's Largest Aerospace Event

Speech

LE BOURGET, France, June 18, 2007 -- The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry, today issued the following statement from the Paris Air Show in France:
"I am pleased to be able to lead the Canadian delegation to the 2007 Paris Air Show, the single most important event for the global aerospace and defence industry this year. With nearly a hundred of Canada's most innovative aerospace and defence companies on hand, we will be able to show the world what Canadian firms have to offer and what Canada has to offer as an ideal location for investment.
"I am leading this delegation to help Canadian companies position themselves as key partners in the civil and defence aviation developments of the future.
"I am here to facilitate meetings between Canadian companies and key investors, to maximize the opportunities available to Canadian industry through the government's major defence procurements, and to promote Canada as the location of choice for aerospace and defence investment.
"The Canadian aerospace and defence industries are international leaders. Canada's innovative firms develop the highest calibre technologies and products, making them truly globally competitive.
"The aerospace industry employs approximately 75 000 highly skilled Canadians in more than 400 firms from British Columbia to Newfoundland and Labrador and the Arctic. It also features important industrial clusters. Canada is home to numerous small and medium-sized enterprises that occupy crucial parts of global supply chains, as well as leading multinational companies with global influence.
"Canada has a well-deserved reputation as a centre of excellence in this strategic global industry. This is reflected in the strength and breadth of the delegation here at this important event.
"This is one more way in which Canada's New Government helps to promote Canada's aerospace industry."
