RCMP Commissioner committed to working on Mr. Brown's recommendations

OTTAWA, June 18, 2007 — RCMP Commissioner Bev Busson issued the following statement today in response to the announcement made by the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety.
“I welcome Minister Day’s announcement accepting Mr. Brown’s recommendations. I believed, and continue to believe – that the serious issues the RCMP has faced in recent time must be dealt with in a head-on fashion. The initiatives announced today will help build a stronger RCMP for the future.
I echo Minister Day’s recognition of the RCMP employees who came forward. Over the past few months, I have met with each of the individuals. They know my feelings about the actions they took, and the hardships they’ve endured. I have committed to ensuring that these dedicated employees receive recognition for doing the right thing, for the right reasons.”
Every day our employees strive to ensure that those we serve enjoy the safety and security they deserve. It is through their dedication on the front lines that the RCMP has earned the trust and confidence of Canadians.
Those of us who are entrusted with the future of this great organization must make it a priority to recognize and maintain this very simple truth: our greatest asset is our people, their dedication and their courage.”
