STEPHENVILLE, Newfoundland and Labrador—The Honourable Loyola Hearn, Member of Parliament for St. John’s South– Mount Pearl, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and Minister responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced over $500,000 in Employment Assistance Services (EAS) and Skills Link funding to help unemployed individuals in the Stephenville area find work.
“The Government of Canada is pleased to announce funding that will help participants become more prepared for the workforce,” said Minister Hearn. “Not only will these projects be beneficial for adults and young people in Stephenville requiring employment and career assistance, but they will also help local employers and the local economy.”
The Community Education Network of Southwestern Newfoundland will receive $307,670 in funding under the EAS program to help 1,100 unemployed individuals find work. In addition, $258,993 in funding under the Skills Link program will help more than 20 youth in Port aux Basques and Stephenville make a successful transition to the workplace.
These projects demonstrate the commitment of Canada’s New Government to improving opportunities for youth, which is part of an ongoing effort to build a strong, vibrant workforce for the 21st century. The Government’s approach is to create a country with meaningful, long-term employment opportunities and a workforce that is trained to meet the requirements of modern businesses.
