ST. JOHN’S, NL On May 7, 2007, Quinlan Brothers Limited of Bay de Verde
was ordered to pay a total of $5,829.44 in fines, while James Walsh, a company weigh
master, was ordered to pay $500.00.
In Harbour Grace Provincial Court, on March 21, 2007, Quinlan Brothers Limited
and James Walsh were convicted of misreporting snow crab in 2002.
Between May 2003 and May 2004, fishery officers of the Bay Robert’s DFO detachment
investigated several crab fishing vessels. This investigation identified several
incidents of alleged misreporting for vessels that landed crab at Quinlan Brothers
Limited, Bay de Verde, NL. Other charges stemming from this investigation are currently
before the courts.
On June 14, 2004, DFO’s Special Investigative Unit, with the support of DFO and
RCMP computer forensic specialist, searched the processing facilities and head office
of Quinlan Brothers Limited.
Charges were laid on August 26, 2005.
