EXPANDED HEALTH HAZARD ALERT

OTTAWA, July 3, 2007 -- The public warning issued on June 28, 2007 has been
expanded to include an additional product.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to
consume Robert's American Gourmet Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn Sticks snack food
described below because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The affected product, Robert's American Gourmet Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn
Sticks snack food, a product of the United States (U.S.), is sold in a flexible
plastic foil bag. All sizes and codes are affected by this alert. This product
may have been distributed nationally. In addition, this product may be available
through internet sales, phone orders, and mail orders.
There has been no reported illness associated with the consumption of the
Robert's American Gourmet Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn Sticks snack food. However,
there have been numerous illnesses in the U.S., but none confirmed in Canada,
associated with the consumption of the Veggie Booty snack food product recalled
on June 28, 2007.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not
look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may
cause salmonellosis, a food borne illness. In young children, the elderly and
people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and
sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may
cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea,
abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe
arthritis.
The importers are voluntarily recalling the affected products from the
marketplace. The CFIA
is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
