WINDSOR MEN CHARGED WITH IMPORTING COUNTERFEIT GOODS

WINDSOR, ON -Thursday July 12, 2007– Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Windsor Detachment Federal Enforcement Section have charged three Windsor men with 22 counts of importing counterfeit goods.
Acting on information from Canada Border Services Agency and the RCMP in Vancouver B.C., members of the Windsor RCMP Federal Enforcement Section executed a search warrant on a sea container at the rail terminal in Bramalea, Ontario in January of this year.

The investigation revealed that the goods were being shipped to an address in Windsor Ontario from China. The goods, which partially filled a 20 foot sea container, included apparel and electronic equipment including Ipods , MP3/MP4 players and electronic toys.
Examination of the goods found in the container revealed at least 23 different brand named products, the value of which is approximately $250,000.00.
"Counterfeit goods that are smuggled into the country represent a financial loss to legitimate businesses, governments and tax payers" stated Cpl. Anne Garneau of the Windsor Federal Enforcement Section. "Those arrested in this case were simply out to make a profit regardless of the health and safety of the consumer".
Aiman ADHAMI (age 33), Ayesam ADHAMI (age 31), Khalid GAFAZ (age 50) and 1700756 Ontario Limited are charged with eight counts of importing property with a forged trademark, seven counts of attempting to defraud over $5000.00 and seven counts of attempting to defraud under $5000.00
