Saskatoon, Saskatchewan — With the help of an
investment from Canada’s New Government totalling more than $65,000,
25 francophone youth between the ages of 14 and 18 are at camp this week
to improve their business skills. Seventeen of the young people are from
outside of Saskatchewan.
Blackstrap Member of Parliament Lynne Yelich, today announced the federal
funding at the camp, which is hosted by Conseil de la Coopération
de la Saskatchewan (CCS).
“Canada’s New Government is proud to provide more than $65,000
in support of young entrepreneurs who will be the engine that drives our
economy,” said Ms. Yelich. “Camp Jeunes Entrepreneurs gives
these entrepreneurs a chance to exercise their business skills and enables
them to explore entrepreneurship as a career option.”
“While recognizing the importance of today’s announcement,
the Conseil de la Coopération de la Saskatchewan would like to
take this opportunity to thank WD for their continued support and involvement
over the last five years in helping establish a strong entrepreneurial
spirit within the Francophone population”, said M. Jason Nystrom,
Chairman.
The youth will take classes on business and marketing planning, web site
design, e-commerce and business financing. They will also design, manufacture
and market their own products under the mentorship of local business professionals.
They will then sell their products at the Saskatoon Fringe Theatre Festival
on August 11.
Government of Canada funding included $54,644 from Western Economic Diversification
Canada (WD), $7,000 from Industry Canada and $3,964 from Human Resources
Skills Development Canada.
The CCS is part of WD’s Western Canada Business Service Network.
The network consists of several integrated organizations that provide
entrepreneurs with the expertise they need to start a new business or
expand their existing company.
The CCS also represents the Réseau de développement économique
et d’employabilité (RDÉE) for francophone economic
development in Saskatchewan. CCS’ mandate is to offer programs and
services that meet the needs and challenges of the francophone community
in Saskatchewan.
