OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the reappointment of Mr. David Joseph Keating to the board of directors of the St. John's Port Authority for a term of three years.
"This will be Mr. Keating's second term as a Director on the board of the St. John's Port Authority," said Minister Cannon. "I am pleased that his extensive offshore drilling expertise will once again benefit the board."
Mr. Keating has 33 years of operational and management experience in the drilling industry in the North Sea, Canada, South America, the United States and Africa. Over the course of his career, he has also been involved in shipyard projects around the world that include new builds, major upgrades and commissioning. He is currently the Sector Manager (Canada) for the international offshore drilling company Transocean Canada Company.
The St. John's Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of St. John's under the Canada Marine Act. As a CPA, the St. John's Port Authority benefits from greater management flexibility, including increased freedom to develop contracts and borrow money from commercial lenders.
The Port of St. John's handles about 1.5 million tonnes of cargo annually. Its facilities handle a variety of ships, including bulk carriers, roll-on/roll-off vessels, forest products carriers, container ships, tankers and conventional cargo vessels. In 2006, the port welcomed 17 cruise ships carrying more than 15,000 passengers.
