Seizure of 1.5 Million Illegal Cigarettes, South Tetagouche, N.B.

On August 24th 2007, RCMP District 9 were conducting a checkstop in the South Tetagouche NB area assisted by Woodstock, Miramichi, Bathurst, Edmundston, BNPP police departments and RCMP J Div North Customs & Excise Section.
155 cases of illegal cigarettes (1.5 Million cigarettes) were seized from a passing vehicle. Two males from Kahawake, Quebec were arrested, remanded and will appear in Bathurst Provincial Court to face charges under the Federal Excise Act 2001 and the Provincial Tobacco Tax Act.
RCMP J Div North Customs & Excise(Bathurst office) and the District 9 RCMP are inviting the media to attend the Bathurst RCMP detachment for interviews and photos at 3pm on August 27, 2007.
