Québec City, August 24, 2007
By the Honourable Josée Verner,
Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages
I was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Andrée P. Boucher, Mayor of Québec City, earlier today. She was assertive and dynamic—a woman of integrity who was an important figure in the history of Québec City politics.
Mayor of Sainte-Foy from November 3, 1985, to January 1, 2002, before being elected Mayor of Québec City on November 6, 2005, Ms. Boucher always put the development of her city first. We collaborated on several projects together, including, of course, the 400th anniversary Québec City, which will be celebrated in 2008.
Along with all residents of the greater Québec City area, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Andrée P. Boucher.
