Canada's New Government contributes funding to help homeless people gain access to services in Calgary

News Release

CALGARY, ALBERTA, September 21, 2007 - Mr. Art Hanger, Member of Parliament for Calgary Northeast, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Canada, recognized the official opening of Storehouse 39-3-10 today in Calgary.
"Canada's New Government is delivering on its commitment to help those who are homeless and at risk of becoming homeless," said Mr. Hanger. "The Storehouse 39-3-10 centre will offer homeless people in Calgary access to the safe housing and support they need to become more independent and enjoy a better quality of life."
Federal homelessness funding of approximately $1.29 million helped develop the resource centre, which helps those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Calgary achieve independence and stability. Storehouse 39-3-10 offers homeless persons in Calgary access to the programs and services provided by the Community Kitchen Program of Calgary, NeighbourLink Calgary and the Calgary Eye Way Society.
Other partners of this project include the Calgary Homeless Foundation, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, the Kahanoff Foundation and the United Way.
The new Homelessness Partnering Strategy began on April 1, 2007. It is providing $269.6 million over two years to help communities across Canada combat homelessness more effectively. The Strategy puts in place structures and supports that help people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless achieve self-sufficiency, and fosters partnerships aimed at realizing concrete results.
