New Wall Map of Canada, bigger, better

Sidney, B.C.: During a visit with local students today, the
Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, unveiled the brand new 2007
wall map of Canada. The Minister hand-delivered the first map while speaking to
a Grade 11 Global Studies class at Parklands School in his home riding of
Saanich-Gulf Islands. The new map is 25 percent larger than the normal map of
Canada with a sharper, clearer image of the country.
"As Minister of Natural Resources I am proud of my department's role in
bringing this information to Canadians, and contributing to their overall
knowledge of our country," said Minister Lunn. "This new map will help all
Canadians better appreciate the size and majesty of Canada."
The Atlas of Canada has produced the new wall map of Canada using new
"direct-to-plate" digital technology. This produces a better image than
traditional film printing. A special coating applied to each copy of the map
reduces glare and protects colours from fading.
"As a visual learning aid, the new and improved map of Canada is a meaningful
contribution in support of educating youth about our great country," added
Minister Lunn."
The revised map includes updated geographical names such as Yukon, instead of
Yukon Territory. It also displays the names of Canada's newest national parks,
such as Ukkusiksalik in Nunavut.
The Atlas of Canada recently celebrated 100 years of mapping Canada's
geography and history. As Canada's premiere online mapping resource, the Atlas
offers a wealth of resources for everyone.For more information about where
