OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Marc A. Courtois as chairperson of the Canada Post Corporation. He also announced the appointment of Mr. Thomas Cryer as a member of the board of directors.
"I am very pleased that Mr. Courtois has agreed to serve as chairperson of the Canada Post Corporation. His business and financial experience will be invaluable to the Corporation," said Minister Cannon. "I would also like to thank Mr. Donald Woodley for his contribution as acting chairperson over the last six months and his continued support as a board member."
Mr. Marc A. Courtois holds a bachelor of arts degree from Concordia University and a master of business administration from the University of Western Ontario. He has more than twenty years of experience in capital markets. He has particular expertise in the areas of financing, mergers and corporate acquisitions. He worked for RBC Dominion Securities Inc. from 1980 to 2001. Mr. Courtois is an independent member of the board of directors of TVA Group, Oceanex Inc. and the GBC North America Growth Fund Inc. He is also active in many charitable organizations and health care centres. He has been appointed for a term of five years.
"I am pleased that Mr. Cryer has agreed to serve on the board of Canada Post," added Minister Cannon. "His expertise in finance and impressive record of community service will be tremendous assets for the corporation."
Mr. Thomas Cryer, Fellow Chartered Accountant, is a retired partner of Deloitte and Touche LLP and its former chairman and chief executive officer. Some of Mr. Cryer's other professional activities have included involvement in various businesses and charitable organizations, such as the Canadian Council of CEOs, Canadian Mental Health, and St. John Ambulance. He is currently on a number of boards of directors including St. Michael's Hospital Foundation, Grey Horse Capital and Skyservice Airlines. Mr. Cryer holds a bachelor of commerce from the University of British Columbia and was recognized, in Ontario, for his professional contributions by being designated as a Fellow Chartered Accountant. Mr. Cryer has been appointed until August 2009.
Canada Post Corporation is a Crown corporation and one of the largest employers in Canada. It serves approximately 33 million Canadians and more than one million businesses and public institutions. In 2006, Canada Post employees delivered 11.6 billion pieces of mail to more than 14 million addresses in Canada.
