OTTAWA – The Government of Canada today presented the 2007
ENERGY STAR® Market Transformation Awards to a dozen businesses and utilities
from across Canada in recognition of their exceptional work in promoting
energy-efficient products. These awards are part of a family of ecoENERGY
Efficiency Awards supported by Canada's Government to celebrate best practices
in innovation in energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy.
"Congratulations to the 2007 award winners for demonstrating corporate
leadership in marketing ENERGY STAR in Canada," said the Honourable Gary Lunn,
Minister of Natural Resources (NRCan). "ENERGY STAR helps consumers save energy
and money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and I thank you for your
commitment to helping Canadians to use less and live better."
The ENERGY STAR symbol is applied to only the most energy-efficient products,
including major household appliances; consumer electronics; office equipment;
heating, cooling and ventilation equipment; lighting products such as compact
fluorescent lights and fixtures; windows and skylights; and doors.
To qualify for the ENERGY STAR symbol, products must meet stringent
specifications for energy efficiency and, depending on the product, be 10- to
50-percent more efficient than conventional products. In Canada, the ENERGY STAR
program is administered by NRCan's Office of Energy Efficiency.
The 2007 ENERGY STAR Market Transformation awards were presented by NRCan's
Deputy Minister, Cassie Doyle, on behalf of Minister Lunn.In the past year,
the Government of Canada has made major progress on energy efficiency. This
includes the launch of the ecoENERGY initiatives – a $2-billion set of focused
measures that are helping Canadians use energy more efficiently, boost renewable
energy supplies and develop cleaner energy technologies.
