Amos, Quebec, October 2, 2007 Acting on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, Luc Harvey, Member of Parliament for Louis-Hébert, today announced that the firm Imprimerie Harricana Inc. received $283,150 in financial assistance, $99,102 of it in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to modernize its operations.
This funding served to help the SME acquire a compiler-binder, a four-colour printing press and a direct-to-plates system in order to better meet customer demands and develop new markets.
"In an economy characterized by increasingly intense global competition, small and medium-sized businesses must rise to major challenges in order to meet their growth objectives. Indeed, these are the very challenges Canada's new government set out to tackle in its 2007 budget, which identifies five key advantages to help our companies become more competitive on the international stage. The contribution we are announcing today reflects Canada Economic Development's determination to foster market growth and diversification for the benefit of our enterprises," Luc Harvey stated.
"The printing industry has undergone major technological changes over the last decade. In allowing us to carry out our modernization plan, this support from Canada Economic Development will help ensure we are able to remain competitive," added Imprimerie Harricana President Marcel Guertin.
Imprimerie Harricana Inc., a family-run business founded in 1956, recently expanded its printing of monthly specialty magazines for the advertising market. With its newly-acquired equipment, the firm will now be in a position to offer the service directly in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region.
