GRIMSBY, Ontario, October 11, 2007 - On behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, Dean Allison, Member of Parliament (Niagara West-Glanbrook), today announced funding for the Corporation of the Town of Grimsby.
The $12,900 in funding will enable the Grimsby Museum to digitize its archives collection.
"Canada's New Government is pleased to support the Grimsby Museum," said Minister Verner. "Museums showcase our rich cultural history. Our contribution will allow the museum to acquire digital images of over 4000 archival items, and Canadians will have more opportunities to appreciate and enjoy a unique collection that reflects the history of this region."

This investment is important for the region, and it will benefit not only the community but also visitors to the Grimsby region."

"This grant will allow the completion of the digital imaging of the more than 5000 documents that the Grimsby Museum has in its archives collection. This is an exciting opportunity for the Grimsby Museum, as the project will make the history of Grimsby more accessible to the public both at the Museum and, eventually, online."
Canada's New Government is providing this financial assistance through the Museums Assistance Program. This Department of Canadian Heritage program provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.
