OTTAWA, ONTARIO, October 22, 2007— The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the appointment of Judith F. MacPherson as full-time Vice-Chairperson of the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. MacPherson to the Canada Industrial Relations Board" said Minister Blackburn. "The Board will value her knowledge and experience of labour issues."
Ms. MacPherson possesses over 25 years of experience as a lawyer specializing in labour, employment, administrative, corporate, commercial and family law. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (LL.B) from the University of New Brunswick and a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary's University, in Halifax. She is very active in her community and has held various positions serving on committees, boards and associations including the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board and the New Brunswick Public Service Labour Relations Board, where she currently stands as adjudicator.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board is an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal responsible for the interpretation and administration of Part I (Industrial Relations), and certain provisions of Part II (Occupational Health and Safety) of the Canada Labour Code. The Board's mandate is to contribute to and promote effective industrial relations in any work, undertaking or business that falls within the authority of the Parliament of Canada.
