Kentville, Nova Scotia, October 5, 2007 - A terrific addition has been
made to Kings Para-Transit (KPT)'s fleet. The new 12-seater bus has the
ability to securely transport four passengers who use wheelchairs.
The purchase of this new vehicle was made possible through $31,285 in
funding from the Government of Canada's Public Transit Fund under the
joint Canada-Nova Scotia Community Transit Funding Agreement, as well as a
$15,000 contribution from EKM Health Foundation Wolfville and $6,500 from
the Physicians for Philanthropy organization in Kentville.
"Support for improved public transit is one way Canada's New Government
is investing in infrastructure which encourages a growing economy, a
cleaner environment, and a more secure Canada," said Senator Gerald Comeau
on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities. "Investments such as this new transit bus
support vibrant communities in the regions they serve by making it easier
for everyone to use the system."
KPT Board Member Hugh Witty says you can't miss the KPT vehicles on
Kings County roads due to their bright blue colour.
The bus, like all of KPT's vehicles, is available to all persons with
disabilities, whether these are long-term or temporary. All drivers are
specially trained to ensure clients are transported with care, courtesy
and safety. Drivers have cell phones so any last minute itinerary changes
can be addressed.
The new bus is available now to transport clients to medical
appointments, to work, or just for personal commitments. The vehicle can
be booked once in a while or every day. The service is available normally
5 days a week but requests for other times will be accommodated if at all
possible. Any Kings County resident who has a disability, as well as
seniors (especially those living away from Kings Transit routes) can
access Kings Para-Transit's services. Door-to-door service is provided.
KPT Service has to be booked – normally at least 24 hours ahead.
It costs just $10 for a one-time membership of KPT to access the
service, and you can book rides, get application forms and check the cost
of a journey on the Website at www.kingsparatransit.ca.
