Longueuil, Quebec, October 23, 2007 – Canada's next-generation Earth Observation satellite, Radarsat-2, has successfully passed integration, qualification and testing phases and is now ready for shipment to the launch site in Baikonur Kazakhstan.
The Canadian Space Agency and MDA, its prime contractor, are offering media a technical briefing on the capabilities of Canada's newest and most advanced space satellite that will deliver precision imaging to meet the priorities of the Government of Canada and the needs of Government departments and a growing number of scientific and commercial clients worldwide.
Luc Brûlé, Director of Earth Observation Projects (CSA) and Hans Baeggli, Senior Space Program Engineer at MDA, will brief the media on the RADARSAT-2 Earth Observation Mission that is scheduled to be launched on December 8, 2007 from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. This will be the last opportunity for media to view the satellite prior to its shipment for launch.
This next-generation, commercial radar satellite offers powerful technical advancements that will enhance Canada's ability to protect its sovereignty in the far north, while supporting marine surveillance, ice monitoring, disaster management, environmental monitoring, resource management and mapping in Canada and around the world.
