Statement

OTTAWA, October 12, 2007 — October 14 marks the beginning of Small Business Week, a time when we acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our more than 1 million small businesses across the country. Their strength and vitality has fuelled much of the economic growth this country has experienced in recent years.
As Minister of Industry, it is part of my mandate to support stronger business growth through continued improvements in productivity and innovation performance. My colleague the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism) and I are fully committed to working with our public and private sector partners to foster entrepreneurship and create an environment where Canadians can compete in the global marketplace.
Let's take the time to recognize small business owners for their contribution to our communities and to our quality of life.
