VALCARTIER – The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency announced today the signing of a contract between Defence R&D Canada - Valcartier and Fujitsu Consulting. This task authorization contract has a ceiling of $10M.
The project is called JCDS 21, which stands for Joint Command Decision Support for the 21st Century, and falls under the Technology Demonstration Program of Defence R&D Canada (DRDC). This contract will enable the development of a joint net-enabled, collaborative environment to achieve decision superiority in complex domestic operations. The development of the JCDS 21 testbed is scheduled to take place over the next two years with optional years until 2011, if needed.
“I am pleased to announce the agreement to develop leading-edge technology for the Canadian Forces. Linking people, organizations and technologies quickly and effectively is key to making the right decisions. I believe this project will be a significant addition to the department's information technology,” said the Honourable Peter MacKay.
DMR Consulting, Fujitsu Consulting’s Quebec Region division, will be the prime contractor in this innovative project, in cooperation with Lockheed Martin Canada, IBM Canada, CAE, Prolity, xwave and NSim. Team Fujitsu will provide the services necessary to develop a robust testbed for JCDS 21 TD for the demonstration of concepts, strategies and technologies to support situation analysis, visualization, action support and operations management.
It is anticipated that the results of studies and experimentation conducted under this project will be shared with the larger Canadian security research community, to the extent that they address problems of common interest and will contribute to the advancement of the Canadian Forces Integrated Command and Control capability.
DRDC is an agency of the Canadian Department of National Defence responding to the scientific and technological needs of the Canadian Forces. Its mission is to ensure that the CF remains scientifically and operationally relevant. The agency is made up of seven research centres located across Canada with a corporate office in Ottawa. DRDC has an annual budget of $300 million and employs 1500 people. With a broad scientific program, DRDC actively collaborates with industry, international allies, academia, other government departments and the national security community.
