Government of Canada Commends Mon Sheong Foundation on Contributions to Chinese-Canadian Culture

TORONTO, November 2, 2007 - The Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), will attend the Mon Sheong Foundation's Cathay Ball tomorrow and congratulate the organization for its contribution to pluralism in Canada.
"I am proud to participate in this event in support of the Mon Sheong Foundation," said Secretary of State Kenney. "Our Government recognizes the wonderful work and remarkable contributions that the Mon Sheong Foundation has made to Toronto."
The Mon Sheong Foundation is a charitable organization, dedicated to promoting Chinese culture, heritage, language, and philosophy through caring for the elderly and providing community programs and services for people of all ages. Established in 1964, the Mon Sheong Foundation was the first Chinese voluntary organization to gain charitable status in Ontario. The Foundation built the first health care facility in Ontario for Chinese-Canadian seniors and today operates one of the largest Chinese language schools in Canada.
The Government of Canada is committed to reaching out to all Canadians and is developing lasting relationships with ethnic and religious communities in Canada. The Multiculturalism Program encourages these communities to participate fully in Canadian society by enhancing their level of economic, social, and cultural integration.
