Dolbeau-Mistassini, QC - Denis Lebel, Member of Parliament for Roberval - Lac-Saint-Jean, announced today, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, a contribution of up to $1,700 to the Regroupement des anciens militaires du Haut-du-Lac [Group of retired military personnel of Haut-du-Lac]. The funds, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund, will support activities surrounding the unveiling of a new cenotaph in Dolbeau-Mistassini.
"A community's cenotaph is a strong symbol of its commitment to remember," said Minister Thompson. "The Government of Canada is proud to support this unveiling ceremony as the cenotaph is introduced to the community as an important place of remembrance."
The event, which will be held on November 10, will include commemorative activities such as a parade, a wreath-laying ceremony, poem readings, and a youth choral performance. A large number of the community members, including cadets, Veterans, Legion members, and youth, are expected to attend and participate in all activities.
"The addition of a cenotaph in this community is a point of celebration," said Mr. Lebel. "This ceremony allows the people of Dolbeau-Mistassini to come together as a community and show their respect to all those who have worn the Canadian uniform with pride."
The Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based projects.
