Lindsay, ON - Barry Devolin, Member of Parliament for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, announced today, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, a contribution of up to $3,250 to The Academy Theatre for Performing Arts in Lindsay, Ontario. The funds, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund, will support a tribute event that honours Veterans from 13 local Royal Canadian Legion branches.
"Veterans Affairs Canada is committed to remembering the sacrifices and achievements of all those who have worn the Canadian uniform with pride," said Minister Thompson. "Projects like this one provide the community with the opportunity to honour local Veterans."
The tribute event will be held at the Victoria Park Amoury on Friday, November 9, 2007. Approximately 350 people, including Veterans and youth are expected to attend. The Lindsay cadets, along with Veterans will participate in a colour party led by Scottish pipers. A youth dance group will be performing at the event and students from the local high school will also provide assistance, making this project an excellent opportunity for youth to meet and talk with Veterans.
"Showing gratitude to our fallen heroes is so vital during Veterans Week," said Mr. Devolin.
The Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based projects.
