GATINEAU (QUEBEC) — Investments made by the governments of Canada and Quebec will allow work to begin, to improve the quality of life of Lac-des-Fées residents living along Saint Raymond Boulevard.
Today, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and Roch Cholette, MNA for Hull and Parliamentary Assistant to the Quebec Minister of Finance and Chair of the Conseil du trésor, on behalf of Julie Boulet, Quebec Transport Minister, announced the start of construction of the Saint Raymond sound barrier in Gatineau.
"Today's announcement shows once again that the Government of Canada is delivering the goods in terms of infrastructure for Outaouais region residents," said Minister Cannon. "This new sound barrier will improve our quality of life by reducing the noise pollution caused by traffic on Saint Raymond Boulevard."
"The start of work on the Saint Raymond sound barrier is a clear sign of our government's commitment to moving ahead with our major Quebec road system retrofit plan we introduced in 2003," said Mr. Cholette. "I am very pleased that this project will considerably improve the quality of life of area residents."
Funding of the sound barrier, estimated at nearly $1.5 million by Transport Quebec, will be shared equally between the governments of Canada and Quebec.
The work will consist of building a 600-metre long and three-metre high landscaped bank. According to Transport Quebec, it will be complete by the end of summer 2008.
