KUUJJUAQ, Québec — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister responsible for Quebec, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced the official opening of a new Service Canada Centre in Nunavik.
“As we stated in the recent Speech from the Throne, the Government of Canada is committed to enabling northerners to take advantage of the North’s vast opportunities,” said Minister Cannon. “This new point of service, the first in Quebec’s Arctic, will help meet the needs and expectations of communities in that area, providing them with better access to government programs and services.”
The new Service Canada Centre in Kuujjuaq is opening in response to a request made by the Inuit in Nunavik, and is the result of a respectful and productive collaboration between two partners: the Makivik Corporation and Service Canada. Responding to the community’s needs has been one of Service Canada’s main concerns, and for this reason, the Government of Canada hopes that the opening of a Service Canada Centre in Kuujjuaq will fulfill the community’s expectations.
The Kuujjuaq Service Canada Centre is part of a network of 80 Service Canada Centres and 30 outreach sites in Quebec. The network provides Quebeckers with access to a range of federal services, whether they live in urban or rural communities, remote or northern regions.
