Minister Bernier to Travel to Washington

The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be in Washington,
D.C., on December 20, 2007, to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
“The United States and Canada have many common interests,” said Minister Bernier. “I
welcome this opportunity to take stock and share perspectives with Secretary Rice on
the international challenges we face together, and to discuss important bilateral issues.”
Minister Bernier and Secretary Rice will have a meeting followed by a working lunch.
While in Washington, Minister Bernier will take the opportunity to meet with the
Secretary General of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza, to
discuss hemispheric developments and the role of the Organization in strengthening
and promoting democracy. Minister Bernier will also address the issue of Canada’s
re-engagement with the Americas.
Also on Minister Bernier’s agenda are separate meetings with leading members of the
U.S. House and Senate Foreign Relations committees.
