OTTAWA, December 4, 2007
Hanukkah marks the triumph of the Jewish people against tyranny more than two thousand years ago. Jews around the world commemorate this miracle by lighting the menorah. Hanukkah
culminates on the eighth night, when all the candles burn together, symbolizing the struggle of the Jewish people against adversity.
As Jewish Canadians commemorate the power of religion and faith to accomplish miracles, it is an excellent opportunity to thank members of Canada’s Jewish community for
their important contributions to this country and its history of pluralism.
As Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity) , I encourage Canadians to join me in offering best wishes to Jewish Canadians for a happy and healthy Hanukkah.
