McAdam, NB - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today a contribution of up to $1,830 to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #7 (McAdam). The funds, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program, will be used to help restore and conserve the McAdam Cenotaph in McAdam, New Brunswick.
"Supporting the restoration of memorials such as the McAdam Cenotaph is just one way that the Government of Canada is ensuring that the actions of our service men and women are remembered in communities across the country," said Minister Thompson. "As Canadians we must never forget those who have sacrificed so much so that we may live freely today."
The McAdam Cenotaph honours the fallen of the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, Cyprus and Afghanistan. Funds provided will allow for the entire structure to be re-pointed, damaged stone work to be repaired, and a protective coating to be applied to the cenotaph base.
"The McAdam Cenotaph illustrates how one community honours its local heroes," added Minister Thompson. "Restoring this cenotaph means the community will continue to remember these brave Canadians."
The Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program helps communities across Canada to preserve the memory of those who have served our country. Through partnerships with community groups and local organizations, the cenotaphs and monuments honouring Veterans, war dead and significant events, are maintained with the standard of care and dignity that they deserve.
