Ottawa, January 25, 2008
It is with the greatest of pleasure that I extend congratulations to this year’s Canadian Oscar nominees.
Canada is privileged to have tremendously creative artists who provide entertainment for audiences at home. At the same time, they compete with the best the world has to offer, bringing our unique Canadian perspective on life to people around the world. The extent of this talent is evidenced not only by the number of Canadian Oscar nominees, but also by the range of categories in which they are contenders:
Ellen Page, in “Juno” Fox Searchlight – Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Jason Reitman, “Juno” Fox Searchlight – Director
Sarah Polley, “Away from Her” Lionsgate – Adapted Screenplay
Josh Raskin, “I Met the Walrus” A Kids & Explosions Production – Animated Short Film
Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, “Madame Tutli-Putli” A National Film Board of Canada Production – Animated Short Film
Craig Berkey, “No Country for Old Men” Miramax and Paramount Vantage – Sound Mixing (shared credit)
Paul Massey, “3:10 to Yuma” Lionsgate – Sound Mixing (shared credit)
Jim Erickson, “There Will be Blood” (Paramount Vantage and Miramax) – Achievement in Art Direction, Set Decoration
As Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and on behalf of the Government of Canada, I want to say how proud we are of our Canadian Oscar nominees and to wish them all the best on February 24th.
